Commissioner McKenzie Fleurimond : A Proven Leader for North Miami Beach
Commissioner McKenzie Fleurimond has proudly called North Miami Beach home for over 25 years. Elected in 2018 with overwhelming community support, he was re-elected in 2020 with over 70% of the vote. Since taking office, McKenzie has brought a measured approach to the North Miami Beach Commission, focusing on meaningful progress.
McKenzie has been a strong advocate for enhancing our community's parks and green spaces, supporting projects like the Washington Park Community Center, which is set to break ground this year. He has also championed economic development initiatives, such as the Jefferson Plaza on NE 8th Avenue, which includes a new Publix, a Loews, and a Chick-fil-A, generating hundreds of new jobs for our residents.
In Eastern Shores, significant improvements to roads and infrastructure are underway. As part of a multi-million dollar capital improvement plan, aging water pipes are being repaired and replaced to ensure reliable service for our residents. Additionally, McKenzie has worked to secure essential benefits for AFSCME Union employees, recognizing their hard work and dedication.
Notably, McKenzie introduced policies that empower residents to enhance their homes through an administrative waiver process. For those struggling with utility bills, he implemented a payment plan to prevent water disconnections, allowing residents to receive up to $600 toward their bills.
Working alongside colleagues in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C., McKenzie has successfully secured over $20 million in federal assistance for North Miami Beach residents. He is a collaborative voice on the commission, serving as a liaison to the Parks and Recreation Committee and the Police and Fire Pension Board; having attained his certification as a trustee. Additionally, he is a board member of the North Miami Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, which supports local businesses.
As a business owner holding an insurance license in Life, Health, and Annuities from the State of Florida and studying Business Administration at Johnson and Wales University, McKenzie understands the needs of our community. As the son of Haitian immigrants who worked tirelessly to achieve the American Dream, he is committed to ensuring that the same dream is accessible for every North Miami Beach resident.
McKenzie needs your support to continue uniting our community for success. Together, let’s make North Miami Beach a city where people care.
